HISTORY
The recently formed, EUROPEAN HARDWOOD EXPORT COUNCIL (EHEC), located in Wiesbaden, Germany was founded on December 9, 2004 at Kassel. Since the founding date, EHEC is moving forward to recruit interested sawmill owners from Belgium, France, Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

EHEC currently has fourteen members and plans to organize various information providing events for the European international sawmill community beginning in 2005.

As a result of the founding of EHEC, member sawmills are involved in a new way of conducting international business for the European Hardwood Industry. This plan of action evolved from discussions beginning in September 2002 and finally have come to the forefront of the hardwood industry.

EHEC e.V. – THE ORGANIZATION -

It is important to note that EHEC’s principles are based on a forest economy that respects nature.
EHEC is planning to create an educational center where member sawmills can send their employees to receive training that will enable them to correctly apply the North American rules of standard inspection and perform the grading process. This is the first ever in Europe and will enable sawmills to offer their lumber worldwide that is produced to a well defined and internationally recognized standard. EHEC will be financed by member fees, donations and sponsorings.

OUR OBJECTIVES


•Adaptation of quality standards for square edged (NHLA-Standard) and unedged (EOS-Standard) European Beech as well as European Oak
•Standardized sales strategy
•Close cooperation with the forestry concerning hardwood marketing
•Creation of lumber inspection training centers
•Design a brochure with illustrations of the different grades
•Representation of a sawing capacity of approx. 250.000 cbm per year
•Gain members from Belgium, France, Austria and Switzerland
•Implementation of the NHLA-Standard
